Why should the metal sulphides and carbonates be covered to metal oxide in the process of extraction of metal from them?

THE METAL SULPHIDES AND CARBONATES SHOULD BE CONVERTED TO METAL OXIDE IN THE PROCESS OF EXTRACTION OF METAL FROM THEM BECAUSE EXTRACTION OF METALS FROM THEIR OXIDES IS MUCH EASIER.
