why should the resistance of a voltmeter be very large ? ​

Because if the resistance of voltmeter is low

The current will start to flow from resistance of voltmeter as well decreasing the potential difference required to be calculated therefore the resistance kept on the voltmeter is very high so that minimum current flows through it...
