Iron gets rust when it reacts with oxygen(02) and moisture(H20). So to prevent rusting of iron, they are painted. By painting iron articles, a layer of paint is added into the surface of iron articles which donot allow the iron articles to react with oxygen and moisture.

There are also other ways to prevent rusting of iron. They are....

1. Galvanisation
2. Alloying
3. By applying grease or oil
