Some people do not pursue what they are passionate about because they are afraid of failing. For some, it hurts more to try and fail, than to not try at all because their passions are close to their hearts.
How does the above statement make you feel? Can you align with the message that you would rather not try than try and fail at something that you love so deeply? It resonated with me as I have unfortunately turned down opportunities that could have allowed me to use the gifts given to me by God, but I was afraid of what the outcome would be. By believing that failure is inevitable or that I am just not talented enough to pursue these opportunities, not only am I not living to my full potential, but I am not living a life inspired by God. Instead, I am living a life inspired by fear.
A few years ago, 100 Huntley Street interviewed a young man named Edward Young Lee, who is an incredible filmmaker. He uses films to bring exposure to humanitarian projects and to inspire change through story telling. These films have not only worked to share what is taking place in countries around the world but to help young people pursue their passions and bring the Gospel to others. Through these films and documentaries, Edward Lee is working to share a voice of truth in a world that is filled with “voices” that distract us from God and His Word. He also believes that young people are being bombarded with messages that vary so much from the Kingdom of God, that the truth of God needs to be instilled in them as much as possible so that they can live up to their full potential.
Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
What would happen if we held onto the truth of God and pursued the gifts that He instilled in us? How different would our lives look?
As God’s children, we are called to live a life that is pleasing to Him. To do that, we need to live a life that uses the passions and gifts that He has given us, without fear of failure. God has a Father’s heart and does not want to see His children fail, but even if we do He will teach us from our mistakes and help us pursue even greater things for our lives.
