We should not allow water to stagnate in and around our place to prevent mosquitoes from breeding in the stagnated water. Once they hatch they can cause various diseases like malaria, dengue, etc.

The main dangers are malaria and dengue which is due to the stagnant water, which can become a breeding ground for the mosquitoes that helps them in transmitting these diseases. Stagnant water is not at all safe for drinking as it provides a better incubator for many kinds of bacteria and parasites than running water.
Therefore we should not let water stand at a place for a long time.
