Why should we put a cork in the mouth of a flask when a chemical reaction is carried out in it,to verify law of conservation of mass

It is very essential to block the mouth of a flask with a rubber cork so that the solution present in the flask does not evaporate.

In case some of the liquid does evaporate, it would lead to errors in the calculation of the mass of the reactants and the products and hence one can't prove the law of conservation of mass.
