Why should we teach English literature to Indian students? Elaborate.

English is a lingua franca..which means it can be used for communication purpose in an area which is ethnically diverse.

English teaching is important in India for the following reasons:

1. It gives a level playing field for the Indians were in different langues are spoken. (There are about 22 official languages and n Number of dialects)

2. It helps us to interact with our international counter parts

3. Most of international books, journals etc are written and translated in Enlish

4. There was an era when sun never used to set in British empire. Hence, english is widely spoken

5. Its pretty easy language to learn.

6. Mass acceptance world wide.
