A screwdriver allows you to tighten a screw by turning the driver clockwise and loosen it by turning counterclockwise. It has a tough steel shaft with a bit on the end of the blade attached to a square, round or hexagonal plastic, metal or wooden handle

Answer:
Hammers are prehistoric. As language evolved, the same word sometimes became used to describe both the tool noun and the action of using the tool, a verb.
Screw fasteners did not become practical until the 15th century. The tool was orignally and more descriptively called the turnscrew - a name with combines the action verb with the object noun, and would look clumsy and ridiculous if you tried to re-verb it.
