Bags should be provided with broad straps because it decreases the pressure by increasing surface area which makes it easier to carry them. On the other hand, thin straps decrease surface area which results in more pressure and it becomes hard for us to carry them.

The straps are wide because it evenly distributes the pressure.
Explanation:
- Wider straps have larger surface area as compared to thin straps. SO the pressure exerted by the pads on the shoulders gets distributed and it doesn't hurt. While if the bags have thin straps than the surface area is less which exert more pressure on a smaller part of our shoulders and can hurt.
- Pressure is indirectly proportional to surface area.
- The formula for calculation pressure is Force/Area
