hey there , the strength of a bond can be determind by the degree to which there orbitals overlap.the greater the degree of the overlap,stronger is the bond.the overlap in sigma bond is end to end .whereas in pi bond sidewise, hence extent of overlap is greater in sigma bond.so sigma bond is more stronger.
