why small amount of acid is added to water during electrolysis of water

mfazal: Hi Aparna
mfazal: How are your studies going
mfazal: ??
mfazal: Hope you found me of service
mfazal: Sorry the answer is incomplete
mfazal: Just the algorithm error
mfazal: Water doesn’t have ions that are needed to pass the electricity so in order to increase the no of ions we poor acid into the water.
mfazal: Just increasing the no ions will increase the electricity flow faster ..

conduct electricity. Assuming thatdistilled water is being in the experiment, which is a non conductor of electricity we need to make the water conduct electricity for electrolysis to occur. Hence the acid is added.

Acids are poured in water to prevent excess of heat. And small amount of acids will slowly effect than just pouring huge quantities.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE POUR WATER INTO ACID :-

And we cannot pour water into the acids. Even tough the first thing that comes to mind when teacher says “diluting the acids” is to do this. But let me remind you that if at all the water is poured into acid it creates a sort of heat in the vessel which may be extremely harmful to your body or surrounding.
