Most snakes like rat snakes, corn snakes, and green snakes are oviparous, birthing and hatching eggs outside the body.

Ovoviparous snakes like rattlesnakes produce eggs within the female’s body, they are retained there until after hatching, then expelled outside the body as live babies.

Viviparous snakes have placentas and give birth directly into the environment to live babies. Boa constrictors and green anacondas are chief among these.
