The migration of ion in Silver nitrate is rapid causing uneven deposition. Hence, Silver Argentocynide is preferred.

Silver nitrate dissociates completely in the solution as it is ionic compound, and the faster the dissociation the rougher and uneven the surface of electroplated article is!
When Sodium argentocyanide is used, the dissociation slow and thus the electroplating is uniform and smooth
The dissociation -
AgNO3 ---> Ag+ + NO₃-
Na[Ag(CN)2] ---> Na+ + Ag+ + 2CN-
