Although Sodium Hydroxide is known as a srong base, Sodium ethoxide has more basicity than that of NaOH.Basicity increases with the increase ekectron density on the molecule (on more eletronegative element or atom here Oxygen) . You know when enthanol reacts with Na, sodium ethoxide (CH3CH2ONa) is formed .We can clearly see an alkyl group (R) adjacent to O atom.
