why sodium is kept in inert solvent​

Because of chemical reaction ability it is kept in inert solvent...it is very reactive element.. Sodium is a very reactive metal. it is exposed to air it is reacts with oxygen moisture and carbon dioxide present in air. so to prevent this reaction and to protect the metal Suriyan is kept in or under kerosene .
