sodium is kept in kerosene because it is a very high reactive metal and it vigorously reacts with oxygen and water. that's why it is kept in kerosene.

Answer:

Sodium is a highly reactive metal. When it comes in contact with vapour or water,reacts violently to release hydrogen gas and large amounts of heat

To prevent this, sodium is stored in kerosene.

Reaction with water:

Sodium + Water=====>

Sodium oxide+hydrogen

Na(s) + H2O(l)======>Na2O(s) + H2(g)

Not only sodium but potassium is also stored in kerosene.

These reactions are such exothermic in nature that,the hydrogen gas produced catches fire.
