Why sodium is under the kerosene

Sodium is kept under the kerosene because it is highly explosive and forms explosive mixture with air.

sodium is very reactive metal, they even react when exposed to air and water and they catches the fire . therefore,it is advisable to store them in kerosene oil which breakdown their contact with air and water and prevent the reaction.
