why sodium kept immersed in kerosene oil????


monmanna: sodium is very reactive.
monmanna: in contact with water or water vapour sodium react with explosion that's why you can't take it in open air. so we put it under the kerosene

Sodium reacts so vigorously with oxygen that it cathes fire when kept in the open. Hence to protect accidental fires, it is kept immersed in kerosene oil. it cannot be immersed in water because there is a violent reaction.
