Sodium(Na) and Potassium(K) metals are very reactive metals. When they come in contact with oxygen, they easily caught fire. So to get rid of unnecessary fire, it is kept into Kerosene oil.

Also, Potassium reacts very violently than Sodium because in reactivity series Sodium is less reactive than Potassium.

Also, being Non-metal Phosphorus is also kept into water because it also ignite itself when it comes in contact with oxygen or atmospheric moisture.

Sodium is highly reactive . So it's kept immersed in kerosene oil to prevent its reaction with oxygen , moisture and carbon dioxide of air to prevent accidental fires .
