Why soil erosion is relatively less in dense forest as compared to open field

dense forest have tress that has long and wide and deep rooted roots that holds the soil in a place..and avoids soil erosion

since soil erosion is the carry away of top soil by rain or wind but riots of the trees bind the soil together which holds the top soil layer hence forests reduces the soil erosion
