why solid are called as rigid?

because there is very less intermolecular spaces in solid so they are rigid

Solids are rigid as their molecules have very little space among them. So, these cannot move freely like in liquid state. So they are rigid & remain in the same shape unless these molecules are disturbed like compessed or broken by hitting hard….
