Solid Carbon dioxide is called dry ice because it seems ice, but carbon dioxide does not exist in liquid form, it sublimes straight from a solid to a gas. Hence "Dry Ice".  It is often used in theatres or nightclubs to produce clouds, it looks a bit like smoke.

It gets this name because it does not melt into a liquid when heated; instead, it changes directly into a gas (This process is known as sublimation).

It is called Dry Ice because at normal temperature and pressure it sublimes ( converting directly from solid to gaseous without converting into liquid state. Thus, it does not wet the surface on which it is kept. Moreover it is used as Refrigerant.

Dry Ice will get converted into Gaseous state when heated and pressure applied.
