Why solids are generaly very heavy while gases are light?

I think it depends upon molecular compression..As the molecules are tightly packed in solids and that to they're dense so they are heavy compared to gases which are quite opposite

as the particles of the solids are tightly packed and have a rigidity it is probably heavy as we can hold it. while the particles of the gas is very loosely packed and cannot hold by our hand . while we can't hold it we are not able to know its weight.
