Why some amount of ethyl alcohol is added in cloroform?

Answer:

when cloroform is exposed to atmospheric oxygen,it get converted into phosgene gas (which is poisonous gas). to prevent this, little ethanol is added to cloroform bottles.ethanol converts this phosgene into ethyl carbonate.
