why some metals do not liberate hydrogen gas with nitric acid?

Nitric acid(HNO3) is a strong oxidising agent. TheHydrogen gas produced during its reaction with metalgets oxidised to H2O, hence no hydrogen gas isproduced. Instead it evolvesnitric oxides such as NO2,NO etc.
