When they were hustling and working 24/7, they were often looked down and under-appreciated by their fellow friends or relatives just because of their financial status. These people are determined to change their life and to prove the others wrong. Once they became rich, they tend to feel the urge to show the others that they have made it by buying luxury goods and flaunting lavish lifestyles. Eventually, they might sometimes seemed arrogant, show-off and shallow.
The other reason might be money and power. Human behaves significantly different with power and without. Money gives us power. Just like most politicians, they tend to act and say differently in a bad way when they are in power. Money gives us power and power changes our behaviour.
