The statue of Buddha are fat because lord buddha was originally a man who was a bit fat.The statue of anyone is alike their appearance, as we can see of every god. So the statue of Buddha is as like he was when people saw him. So they start considering buddha as a fat man or god. That's the reason why buddhas statue is fat.
