During extreme conditions like during serious extensive excercise a lot of energy is required by the body. Although respiration is done it may not fully give the total amount of energy which is required for the process. Due to reduced respiration the muscles start working in absence please find oxygen in anaerobic conditions. It is the reason sometimes higher plants and animals too perform anaerobic respiration.
