Why sound waves do not propagate through vacuum?

Ans. Vacuum is defined as the empty space in which there are no matter particles present. As sound is a mechanical wave, in order to propagate material medium is required. Sound cannot travel through vacuum as there is no particles present for vibrations to take place.
