Hi...
Because magnetic field lines starts from north pole and and again end at north pole passing through the south pole.
I.e they from closed loop.
For example when north pole of 2 bar magnets are directed face to face each other then the mag field lines which are produced by north poles push each others mag field lines.
hence we experience pushing.

When two like-poles point together, the arrows from the two magnets point in OPPOSITE directions and the field lines cannot join up. .. Unlike-poles attract: When a north pole and south pole point together, the arrows point in the SAME direction so the field lines can joi.n up and the magnets pull together (attract)
