Quite the contrary, space is basically the most uninteresting possible thing.

In fact, we are probably wrong to call it a thing at all; it is actually the absence of things. It's huge, which is slightly interesting, until you realize that it means that in the very vast majority of our universe there is literally nothing going on. The vast distances also make travelling the universe very impractical and inconvenient, which is annoying. You might be able to twist and warp space with the gravity of massive objects, which is interesting, but you still need an object to do it, so that really isn't space being interesting per se. All in all, space itself is thoroughly boring.
