why speed is scalar and velocity is vector

this is because for mentioning speed you don't require to know the direction...
but in case of velocity it is required.

SPEED HAS ONLY MAGNITUDE.....THERE IS NO SPECIFOC DIRECTION FOR SPEED.....THAT'$ WHY SPEED IS SCALAR QUANTITY....

VELOCITY HAS MAGNITUDE AS WELL AS SPECIFIC DIRECTION....THAT'$ WHY VELOCITY IS VECTOR QUANTITY...
