From a human perspective, the speed of light is immense.
Compared to the scale of the entire universe, it is pitifully slow!
It all depends on what you're comparing it with.

Another question could emerge from what you ask:

Why is the Speed of Light ('c') the value it is?
Why isn't it faster or slower?

If the speed of light were suddenly to change, (either faster or slower), you'd probably break the Universe!  'c' is the value it is because if it weren't, all other fundamental constants would need to change to accommodate the change in 'c'.

So, 'h' (Planck's constant), 'G' (the Gravitational constant), 'e', (the elementary charge), plus a few others, would suddenly find they're all the wrong values.   Each can be defined in terms of the other constants, so, put simply, the universe wouldn't add up (so to speak!) & might disappear in a flash of mathematical logic..!

It'd be a bit like expecting your car's gearbox to keep working if you decided to replace one of the cogs with another that is the wrong size...
