Sponge is called as a solid as it has a fixed shape.

The most well known property of solid is that it has definite shape and mass. A sponge regain its shape and mass remains same. That’s why it is a solid.

The particles of sponge are vey close to each other. It can be compressed due to its material.

It has some pores in it in which air gets filled thus it can be compressed.
