static friction is greater than sliding friction because interlocking of the irregularities in the two surfaces

Hello Mate!

When the block slides over other surface then its contact points does not get enough time to interlock properlp, this is how somewhat you find easier to move a block which is already in motion than to the object in rest. This is why sliding friction is slidly smaller than static friction.
