The friction between the two surfaces is because of the interlocking of the irregularities of the two surfaces. ... Therefore, less friction. But, when the object is at rest, the surfaces interlock well, therefore friction is more. This explains why sliding friction is less than static friction.

Answer:

static friction Is greater than sliding friction because when an obj is moving during this motion in two surfaces . The Magnitude of sliding friction is equal to starting friction reduced by action of additional work associated with the sliding body.
