why sulfur has low electron affinity than chlorine

the sulphur has low electron affinity than chlorine due to smaller atomic size...

the chlorine's electronic configuration is 2s2 2p5...and the sulfur's is 2s2 2p4...

It's going to require more energy for sulfur to gain one electron than it will be for chlorine...
