why sulphur has a greater electron affinity than silicon ?​

Hii dear,

Moving from left to right across a period ,the atoms become smaller as the force of attraction become stronger due to the increasing nuclear charge.

This causes the electron to move closer to the nucleus thus increasing the Electron affinity from left to right.

Same would happen with the case of Sulphur and Silicon

as Sulphur is on the right side So it would experience greater Electron Affinity.

Sulphur has more negative electron gain enthalpy than oxygen.

This is because of a relatively small size of oxygen than sulphur and hence, oxygen cannot accommodate more electrons and to do so, we need to provide extra energy and providing extra energy increase positive electron gain enthalpy.

Hence, sulphur has more electron gain enthalpy with a negative sign.
