Why sulphuric acid [H2SO4] is not used in d preparation of alkyl iodide using alcohols?

coz it acts as a strong acid and it can cause explosions

sulphuric acid [H2SO4] is not used in d preparation of alkyl iodide using alcohols because sulphuric acid oxides iodide ions to iodine and produces hardly any hydrogen iodide.
