Hi there,

☆ Pure water can't conduct the electricity due to absence of free charges as ions in solutions , so we can't do electrolysis for pure water

☆ But by adding small amount of sulphuric acid , ions well be exist in free state so the electrolysis process occures

☆ Sulphuric acid consider as a catalyst

♤ The equations

☆ Anode :2H2O + SO4-2=> O2 + 4e + SO4-2 + 4H+

☆ Cathode: 4H+ + 4e => 2H2

☆ The total equation

2H2O => O2 + 2H2
