Pure water is not a very good conductor of electricity as water is a covalent compound. So to increase its conductivity sulphuric acid(H2SO4) are added  as it is a strong acid and its complete ionisation takes place. ie H2SO4--------------->2H+ + SO4- - These ions helps in conduction of electricity.
