the reason why sun and other planets are spherical in shape dates back to how the solar system formed.
when the solar system formed, the Earth and other planets didn't exist. the only thing that existed was just a cloud of gas and dust known as nebula. when a nearby star exploded into a supernova then the waves of that supernova....sort of...set the cloud into rotational motion. now due to angular momentum as the cloud rotated it became a disk. just the same as when a figureskater draws her legs inward she begins to move faster, the particles at the center of the disk started rotating faster due to which they collided with each other as they rotated. their collision caused them to pass energy and stick to each other. now some thing weird known as differentiation happened. the large and heavy iron and heavier metals sank to the bottom and the lighter materials like silicon stayed up. this allowed the iron particles to melt under extreme pressure and temperature, thus forming a liquid core trying to attain the largest volume with the smallest possible surface area which is of a sphere.thus the iron and other heavier metals formed a spherical core and the other material got attached to the core layer by later this forming a spherical body

this was the case with the Earth. the other planets and the sun were formed in a similar way, that's why they are spherical
