The sun is the ultimate source of energy because green plants absorbs sunlight for photosynthesis.The other organisms are indirectly or directly depended on plants for food.So,if sunlight is not there,then green plants would not had made food and thus the whole food chain would have disturbed and there would be no life on earth.
