because lime water turns milky on exposure to co2 released during respiration . if the lime water is not fresh then it would turn milty due to action of co2 from.the atmosphere and not from.the respective plant or animal

sujalsapariya00: The lime water [Ca(OH)2] is being used to know which gas is evolved during respiration. As we know carbon dioxide is being released during exhalation which will turns the lime water milky due to formation of CaCO3 which shows the release of colour less and odour less gas called carbon dioxide.
