After crossing western ghats these winds descend and get heated up , this reduces humidity in the winds , hence these winds cause little rainfall east of the western ghats (includes Tamil nadu , AP ) , these region can also be called as rain shadow region .....

The southwest monsoon does not bring much rains to Tamil Nadu as the western ghats block most of the clouds with moisture from the southwest.However, repeated failure of northeast monsoon has resulted in acute water shortage in the city.
