I will try to explain in simple way, 2000 years ago there was no country called Srilanka, that was called Eelam and was ruled by Tamil kingdoms and no Sinhalese were there. Tamilnadu and Eelam was conencted by land and there is no water between them as if today.
Tsunami happened that time and separated Eelam from Today's Tamilnadu, that separated Eelam from Tamilnadu. Tamils speak same language in Eelam and Tamilnadu and culture is same.
Still Tamils remember recently we lost DanusKodi in Tamilnadu in 1960 Cyclone . The similar Cyclone Dhanushkodi or Tsunami would have happened to split the Tamils into two separate parts.
200 years back Sinhalese came to Eelam to live and Tamils were too generous as always and gave them a good life in Eelam, after seeing this there are more people came to Eelam to join and slowly became majority in Eelam and dominated in Eelam.
At the end of British rule, they gave all the power to Sinhalese hand. I think 1980s there was a big riot, Tamils were killed and looted and their shops were burnt. Then they start to think about getting back their own country and realized it is not possible live under Sinhalese.
Are they immigrated from India? No, That's their own land. If someone ask you to go out from your home, will you go out?
During British rule there are some tamils went to Srilanka to work in tea estates and they are 'MALAYAGA THAMILARGAL'. This is completely different than the people who lived for more than 2000 years Eelam Tamil inhabitants.
Many Indians and other country people get confused here and say Eelam Tamil people migrated to Srilanka from India without knowing the real fact. I hope this will help to clear the minds of everyone to understand the real truth.
Tamils, one of the superior culture in the world and their literature goes back to 2000 year back and many of those periods books talk about Eelam and Tamilnadu and their Kingdoms in Eelam. Jaffna, one of world biggest Tamils library was burnt during 1980 riot to destroy Tamil's identity, knowledge and their 2000 history.
