In the troposphere, the temperature generally decreases with altitude. The reason is that the troposphere's gases absorb very little of the incoming solar radiation. Instead, the ground absorbs this radiation and then heats the tropospheric air by conduction and convection.

hope it helps u

The Temperature decreases with an increase in altitude due to air – pressure balance.

Explanation:

  • As we elevate in altitude the air gets thinner. And there is a fall in pressure, causing the air to expand. In the process of expansion, the air molecules push the surrounding molecules out, thereby giving out energy. As a result the expanding air cools down.
  • At higher altitudes oxygen amount goes decreasing while other gas molecules density rises up and there is a fall in pressure. Hence the fall in temperature is a result of expansion.
