Tertiary sector has been growing in importance because -

1) There are some services like education, healthcare which the government has to provide.

2) As the primary and secondary sectors grow, there becomes a need for services like banking, transport, communications, etc.

3) As people’s incomes increase they begin demanding services like restaurants, hotels, malls, etc.

4) Also the coming of IT and Communication services have given a boost to tertiary sector.

The important of the tertiary sector is evident from its percentage share in the GDP (about 50%)
