Both ovaries and testes produce hormones, along with the production of ovum and sperm, respectively.

Testes produce testosterone while, ovaries produce oestrogen and progesterone.

These hormones are responsible for control and onset of the whole reproduction process.

Hence, ovaries in females and testes in males are called as primary sex organs.
