the size decreases slightly. Originally Answered: Why is the atomic radius of gallium smaller than aluminium? Because of weak shielding effect of 3d10 orbital in gallium, the nucleus attracts the outer electrons more thus decreasing its size.

Answer:

due to poor shielding effect of 3d shell in Gallium.

Explanation:

The atomic radius of the Ga is less than Al because of poor screening effect. Theatomic radius of Ga is slightly lesser than of Al because in going from Al to Ga, the electrons have already occupied 3d sub shell in Ga.
